Watermelon Agua Fresca

Simple, refreshing and tasty!

I’m not much of a soda drinker, but when I’m thirsty, I don’t love overly sugary drinks either. In the summer, I’d much rather make my own agua fresca with whatever fresh fruit looks best.

Watermelon is one of my favorites—juicy, refreshing, and naturally sweet. And making watermelon agua fresca couldn’t be easier. No complicated recipe here; all you need is a blender and a ripe, juicy watermelon.

I usually use about half a watermelon. Remove the rind and seeds, cut the fruit into chunks, and blend on high for just a few seconds. Pour the watermelon juice into a large pitcher filled with ice and serve.

For a little twist, add some fresh lime zest (or a squeeze of lime) or try a bit of orange zest for added depth. You can strain the pulp if you prefer a smoother drink, but I actually like leaving a little texture in it.

And if you’re feeling festive, add a splash of mezcal. It makes a wonderfully refreshing summer cocktail.
